In Memory

"Farewell my friend yet not farewell.
Where I go, you too shall dwell.
I am gone before your face,
at a moment's time, a little space.
When you come where I now step,
You will wonder why we wept"
                              by Edwin Arnold

Bringing an animal into your home and life brings with it much joy. Inevitably, it also brings sorrow when you must say your final goodbye's. Grieving for your beloved rabbit knows no pattern. It is as individual as you are--and your relationship with your rabbit. The Pet Loss Support Website has comforting advice on the grieving process--specially written for the loss of an animal. It also lists support groups and counselors, if you feel the need. This site has valuable information that should be read by anyone with animal companions as we will all be facing loss someday.

If you would like to find out about placing a memorial on this page for your beloved rabbit, please email Janine.

To those who
have passed over
The Rainbow Bridge...

Reggie

May 2007

Reggie was the victim of an atrocity--his ears sheared off. The circumstances are unknown, but the damage speaks for itself. He was a feisty boy and it took quite some time for him to accept his foster mom but he came very far in his time with us. No matter what he suffered in the early days, his last years were filled with love.

Attila

February 2007

Atilla the Bun was a playful and loving American Fuzzy Lop who loved to give his mom kisses in exchange for papaya. He was only with us for a few years before a gastrointestinal problem snuck up on us, even though he had access to all the foods a healthy rabbit should have, and he passed away a day later. He lived a happy and fun life, binky-ing up until the day before he left us. He will always be in the hearts of his human family

and bondmate Polly Rabbit.

Noah

February 2007

Noah has had several middle ear infections, combated successfully but leaving his head permanently slightly tilted. During the first and most serious bout, his mate Hannah, a little Holland lady, was a phenomenal nurse, pushing herself against him to brace him. With middle ear infections, rabbits lose their sense of equilibrium and with the loss of balance, they roll uncontrollably. Hannah pushed herself right against Noah to still and calm him. It was thanks to her attention and the medications that Noah recovered in record time. He has been a widower for a year now, and is slowing down some as he is an official senior citizen with impaired vision.

Bo

November 2006

Bo went to sleep in his favorite spot and peacefully passed away of old age. Bo, a tiny Holland Lop, had a personality 100 times larger than his physical size. Being visually impaired did not slow him down or make him fearful, instead he ran around his world at full speed, begged for attention and was free with his rabbit kisses. Bo was surrendered at the SPCA and the people who dumped him missed out on a wonderful relationship. We were very gifted to have Bo come into our care and be the face of NJHRS in newspaper articles and TV appearances. Good Night, little man.

Asta

August 2005

Asta spent a long time in foster care. Unfortunately, no one stepped forward to give her a forever home. Asta died peacefully one evening.

Dusty & Mosely

June 2005, December 2006

Dusty (on the right) was left on the porch of the foster home, in a small dirty cage. She and Mosely were a closely bonded pair--with Dusty being the shy one while Mosely the brave adventurer, take-no-nonsense type. Both enjoyed each other's company immensely.

Duncan

May 2005

Sadly, Duncan died in his sleep after only a short time in foster care. We don't know much about his life before he came to NJHRS, but in his last months he was finally given the care and attention he deserved.

Quinn

April 2005

Despite Quinn's physical problems, a rear leg that was broken but noever fixed properly, and schleroderma, a chronic condition causing thickening of the skin, joint problems and in the later stages, thickening of the internal organs, he was a happy boy with a strong determination to survive.
